Bespoke & Built

I create the things I want but can’t find.

I love painting; it’s my experimental, natural language.

Within painting there any many different mediums to explore each taking me down a different path but I also love solving practical problems too.

When I needed to ‘upgrade’ from a studenty skater style ruck sack, I learnt leather working in order to make a smart, just perfect, vegetable tanned leather back pack.

Commissions started arriving after wearing my own creations. I’ve drafted and cut my own patterns to fit three different bill hooks for a local stonemason, created new straps to fit an antique accordion for a musician and made bespoke knife sheaths for a deer stalker. I love the variety of projects that are revealed to me once people discover I work with leather.

Each piece is handcrafted using traditional techniques and quality materials to meet the specific needs of my clients. In this way their items last longer and are updated to be of most use to them.

When I needed to stay warm and use the beautiful fabrics I’d collected, I learned to patchwork and hand-quilt, creating seasonal bedspreads that act as decorative anchors for a room.

In 2016, I found the role that tied my creative, problem-solving, and engineering threads together: Visual Merchandiser for an independent department store in Bath, U.K. Starting with just a few keywords, I designed and built immersive window displays four times a year across seven street-level windows. I loved it!
